(Atlanta, GA - 10/7/07) - The Pelicans Football Club has begun its major season kicking off in the ADASL on October 7th. The first 2 matches of the season saw Screaming go up early only to see a late surge finish off a depleted Screaming Pelicans side that had moved the ball around well for most of the match. The unofficial match results were Screaming Pelicans 1, FC Atlanta 4. These results are currently under protest due to FC Atlanta's use of an ineligible player. The second match saw a revamped P'Cheen Pelicans come out firing with a 3-0 lead only to get comfortable and watch Majestic Red storm back to make it a match. P'Cheen was quick to put the pressure back on and saw the final result of 5-3 in their favor. First week MVPs: Ricky Wells of Screaming Pelicans FC and Walter Voit of P'Cheen Pelicans FC.

Pelicans FC repeats in Charleston showing that they WERE the best team in the division!

(Charleston, SC - 5/30/07) - Screaming Pelicans take Charleston by storm and claim top spot for the second year in a row! The Pelicans started off where the left off from 2006, winning their match handedly, 3-1, surrendering a late goal off a deflection. With the hangovers still fresh and the sun beating down on them, the Pelicans came up against a good Raleigh FC team. With the Pelicans leading 1-0 for much of the match the Pelicans gave up a late goal with about 10 minutes left and Raleigh pushed for the winner and managed to bring the ball down at the top of the 18 using an arm trap then shooting far post with the Pelican keeper only able to manage a slight deflection and the ball finding the inside post. The third match saw the Pelicans back to form notching a decisive 4-0 victory earning top seed in their group and setting up a match against rival Ouzo FC. This match went back and forth with Ouzo scoring first and Pelicans equalizing late in the first half. The Pelicans pressured the 2nd half and found the match winner when Josh Abebe hammered home a rocket of a shot with the Keeper having no chance of stopping it from bulging the onion bag! The Pelicans finished off the match and moved on to the finals. The Pelicans came out a little slow, hung-over, and a 15 to 20+ mph wind in their face. The Pelican defense held strong fending off numerous chances. The Pelicans gave up the first goal to Asheville on a PK, but the Pelicans held off Asheville for the remainder of the half ending down 1-0. The 2nd half saw the wind in the Pelicans favor, however, Dedric Jackson picked up a quick 2nd yellow card dropping the Pelican squad to 10. The Pelicans continued to pressure with 10 and found the back of the net midway through the 2nd half off a long range shot from Hunter Thornton. The match ended in regulation at 1-1. Could the comeback be complete… 3 minutes in to golden goal overtime a Pelican player was taken down in the box and before the whistle was done blowing Roy McClymont had the ball and was set to finish it off. With ice in his veins (okay maybe it was Miller Lite in his veins) McClymont buried the ball in the back of the net, Gooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal! Pelican REPEAT, 2-1 in overtime!!! Hunter Thornton grabbed tournament MVP honors while Richard Henry led the team in goals and David Luck in assists.

Screaming Pelicans take Charleston by storm and claim top spot

(Charleston, SC - 5/31/06) - Against all the odds and contrary to what the critics had been saying, the Pelicans deservedly found themselves in the final of the Annual Low Country Soccer Festival in their very first attempt. Surprisingly after battling through 4 tough matches to reach this pinnacle, the Pelicans had a full squad to choose from. And so, after another dispute with the referee regarding who had to change kit, and please may I add here that in every other country in the world it is the away team who change not the home team, the man in the middle blew his whistle to signify what would be the start of a grueling encounter. Raleigh Rage started the first half very confidently exerting a lot of pressure on the Pelicans midfield and defense. However, as had been the case for the whole tournament so far, the mighty Pelicans were not going to lie down. For all the pressure that was being exerted on the Pelicans back four, keeper Cantonis had a relatively comfortable time. With the exception of a few dodgy refereeing decisions, the half time whistle was sounded with the Pelicans feeling good about their chances and Raleigh Rage clearly the most disappointed of the teams. Coach Abebe had many words of encouragement for the lads at the half and with some inspired tactical changes; the Pelicans were ready for the second half all the while now feeling like World beaters. In the second half, the Pelicans were starting to find a lot more room and chances were starting to come their way. Some tasty tackles were keeping Raleigh Rage honest and in many ways they were staring to be frustrated and psyched out. Chances came and went for both teams until it looked as if it were going to go to extra time, Abebe made the tactical switch that the great Sir Alex Ferguson himself would have been proud of. McClymont was ordered to push up front alongside Camay and within minutes this move paid dividends. With some great work by Camay on the left hand side, he cut the ball back across the box to the onrushing McClymont. Just as McClymont was pulling the trigger he was clattered from behind which in turn caused the ball to break kindly for the onrushing center midfielder Eric Schmidt. Cool as a cucumber, the big man drilled the ball low and hard into the bottom corner beyond the desperate dive of the keeper – with 3 minutes to go, the score line read Screaming Pelicans 1 v 0 Raleigh Rage. In celebrations worthy of a World Cup Final, many Pelicans gathered far in the corner to what must have looked like a time wasting ploy when really it was only shear unrivaled joy. So, with resolute defending that had characterized this team over the final three games, the Pelicans clung to their 1 goal lead and secured the first piece of silverware in Pelicans history. This was truly a fairy tale story that no doubt will make it to ESPN Sportscenter, if not, it will stay in the hearts and minds of all who witnessed it.

Screaming Brewfana Pelicans take 3-2 victory in Charleston training match vs Ouzo

(Atlanta, GA - 5/21/06) - With a massive crowd of 4 on hand to witness a game of free flowing football, Brewfana Pelicans kicked off in the searing heat of Hotlanta around twelve noon yesterday. Both teams set their stalls out to attack early with Ouzo dominating early possession. BP keeper Steve Cantonis certainly saw the majority of the action in the first 20 minutes of the game coping ably with everything Ouzo could throw at him. However, perhaps against the run of play BP took a surprising 1 to 0 lead. A long clearance from Cantonis was deftly flicked on by the head of impressive striker Richard Henry into the path of the onrushing centre midfielder McClymont. From around 40 yards out the Scotsman took a glance at goal and noticed the Ouzo keeper way off his line by the PK spot. On seeing this, McClymont didn't hesitate in hitting a speculative effort at goal which cleared the keeper only by inches and found its way into the back of the net. This goal seemed to lift BP as they raised their game a little and took the game for almost the remainder of the half by the scruff of its neck. Both Henry and Patteson would find efforts hitting the woodwork much to their dismay but a second goal would follow soon. After some good interlink play involving Teem and McClymont on the right side, Ibarra got in the action with a delightfully weighted pass in behind the defense. McClymont was able to take this sublime pass in his stride and square it across the goal for the onrushing Camay who cooley sloted the ball home in the bottom corner. Camay received the pludits of the goal but clearly Kelly Teem and Jason Ibarra were the architechs of a wonderfully crafted goal and a well deserved second for this newly constructed team. BP surprisingly took their foot off the pedal a little bit after this goal and found themselves reliant on a combination of good luck, gritty defending and poor finishing by their opponents, however they would hang onto their 2 goal lead at least until half time. The second half started the same way the first half ended with BP on the back foot. Their opponents came out after a stern talking to from their coach pushing for a goal to get back into the game. They quickly got their first of the game with a real scrappy goal that in the end was well taken. Ouzo started to press a little more and after several more close calls in the BP box, Ouzo won a corner on the right side. BP were made to pay from this set piece after #13 making his debut for the visitors scored his second with a tremendous header high into the net with Cantonis stranded on line wondering why the Red Sea had parted giving the midfielder a free header. At 2 v 2, the game was now on. BP realized this and got into the game again. They were now starting to string some passes together and look more comfortable on the ball, its a shame it took the equilising goal to wake them up. After creating some good chances, BP would finally get that elusive 3rd goal they were looking for to kill off the game. After effortlessly shrugging off a most fiersome tackle, Teem's pass found Camay on the right side of the offensive pitch. Camay, with confidence still soaring from his cool first half finish, quickly sized up the approaching defender and weighed out his options. Having his way most of the day with the Ouzo back line, Camay delicately touched the ball past the helpless defenders outstretched legs back to an on-rushing Teem. It was once again the Scottsman McClymont whose knifing run was rewarded by Teem's one touch flick, the weighted ball finding him right in stride. With a touch of arrogance, McClymont found himself 16 yards from goal rusing in from the right side and drilled a low blast in to the corner beyond the diving reach of the Ouzo keeper. A wry smile unmistakably crept over his face as he watched the frustrated keeper unbury the ball from the back of the net. This goal really took the sting out the game and BP waltzed to the final whistle for a no less than deserved 3 to 2 victory. They now head to Charleston with intentions of bringing home some silverware, if not at least we know they will bring back some stories.
