Pelicans FC Begins ADASL Season, P'Cheen comes out firing in first match (Atlanta, GA - 10/7/07) - The Pelicans Football Club has begun its major season kicking off in the ADASL on October 7th. The first 2 matches of the season saw Screaming go up early only to see a late surge finish off a depleted Screaming Pelicans side that had moved the ball around well for most of the match. The unofficial match results were Screaming Pelicans 1, FC Atlanta 4. These results are currently under protest due to FC Atlanta's use of an ineligible player. The second match saw a revamped P'Cheen Pelicans come out firing with a 3-0 lead only to get comfortable and watch Majestic Red storm back to make it a match. P'Cheen was quick to put the pressure back on and saw the final result of 5-3 in their favor. First week MVPs: Ricky Wells of Screaming Pelicans FC and Walter Voit of P'Cheen Pelicans FC. Pelicans FC repeats in Charleston showing that they WERE the best team in the division! (Charleston, SC - 5/30/07) - Screaming Pelicans take Charleston by storm and claim top spot for the second year in a row! The Pelicans started off where the left off from 2006, winning their match handedly, 3-1, surrendering a late goal off a deflection. With the hangovers still fresh and the sun beating down on them, the Pelicans came up against a good Raleigh FC team. With the Pelicans leading 1-0 for much of the match the Pelicans gave up a late goal with about 10 minutes left and Raleigh pushed for the winner and managed to bring the ball down at the top of the 18 using an arm trap then shooting far post with the Pelican keeper only able to manage a slight deflection and the ball finding the inside post. The third match saw the Pelicans back to form notching a decisive 4-0 victory earning top seed in their group and setting up a match against rival Ouzo FC. This match went back and forth with Ouzo scoring first and Pelicans equalizing late in the first half. The Pelicans pressured the 2nd half and found the match winner when Josh Abebe hammered home a rocket of a shot with the Keeper having no chance of stopping it from bulging the onion bag! The Pelicans finished off the match and moved on to the finals. The Pelicans came out a little slow, hung-over, and a 15 to 20+ mph wind in their face. The Pelican defense held strong fending off numerous chances. The Pelicans gave up the first goal to Asheville on a PK, but the Pelicans held off Asheville for the remainder of the half ending down 1-0. The 2nd half saw the wind in the Pelicans favor, however, Dedric Jackson picked up a quick 2nd yellow card dropping the Pelican squad to 10. The Pelicans continued to pressure with 10 and found the back of the net midway through the 2nd half off a long range shot from Hunter Thornton. The match ended in regulation at 1-1. Could the comeback be complete… 3 minutes in to golden goal overtime a Pelican player was taken down in the box and before the whistle was done blowing Roy McClymont had the ball and was set to finish it off. With ice in his veins (okay maybe it was Miller Lite in his veins) McClymont buried the ball in the back of the net, Gooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal! Pelican REPEAT, 2-1 in overtime!!! Hunter Thornton grabbed tournament MVP honors while Richard Henry led the team in goals and David Luck in assists. |
